The live-action Knuckles spinoff series in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise surpassed 4 million hours of viewing time during its opening weekend, according to a report published by Deadline on Friday. As of right moment, the show is the most watched Paramount+ original series ever. Additionally, the program is the most watched kids’ and family title on the platform as a whole.
The news source also stated that with the debut of Knuckles, the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise had a 278% global increase in viewership above its prior daily average.
The six-episode series made its Paramount+ premiere on April 26 in the United States and Canada. On April 27, the series went live on Paramount+ in more regions. Later in the year, Japan will have its premiere.
The first release date for the series was 2023.
Idris Elba, who plays Knuckles again in the episode, is the main character. The cast includes Ellie Taylor, Scott Mescudi, Edi Patterson, and Julian Barratt. There is a guest star role for Rory McCann. Adam Pally plays Wade Whipple from the movies again, and Tika Sumpter makes a guest appearance as Maddie. Cary Elwes, Rob Huebel, Stockard Channing, Christopher Lloyd, and Paul Scheer are among the other cast members.
The second and third live-action movies are set in the same time period as the series. Wade is trained by Knuckles as his protégé in the series, and he imparts to him the ways of the Echidna warrior.
The actors from the movies came back for the show. The first episode was directed by Jeff Fowler, who returned from the films. Additionally directing were Carol Banker, Jorma Taccone, Ged Wright, and Brandon Trost. Executive producers Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, John Whittington, Toru Nakahara, and Elba are included. Whittington, along with writers James Madejski and Brian Schacter, also functioned as lead writer.
December 20 is the scheduled release date of the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
According to Box Office Mojo, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 made an estimated US$26.5 million on its opening day when it debuted in the United States in April 2022.
