The “paranormal mystery battle & romantic comedy” manga Dandadan by Yukinobu Tatsu, which is now in chapter 163, announced on Tuesday that it will go on sabbatical until September 3. Tatsu is going to conduct study during the month of August in between.
The manga is published in English by Viz Media, which explains the plot as follows:
Who better to fight beside him than his high school crush and a spirit grandmother when a geek has to battle strong spirits and aliens all fighting for the hidden power of his “family jewel”?
When it comes to what they will and won’t believe in the paranormal, Momo Ayase and Okarun are at different ends of the spectrum. They go down a path of covert crushes and supernatural fights they have to take part in to believe as they try to prove each other wrong!
A strange friendship is formed between Momo Ayase and the UFO enthusiast at her school. She calls him “Okarun” because of his peculiar name. Momo believes in ghosts, but she dismisses the notion of aliens as absurd. In contrast, her new friend holds the exact opposite opinion. In order to make things right, Momo went to a UFO hotspot and Okarun went to a scary tunnel to prove the other wrong! The lovely tale of a young couple that follows involves strangely lustful aliens and spirits.
In April 2021, Tatsu released the manga via Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ manga service. On July 4, Shueisha released the manga’s fifteenth collected book volume. On October 15, Viz Media will release the ninth volume.
DAN DA DAN: First Encounter, a television anime based on the manga, will make its early theatrical debut on August 31 in Asia, September 7 in Europe, and September 13 in North America. Through mid-September, the screenings will be extended to more than 50 nations and regions, including Africa, New Zealand, Latin America, and Australia. The Super Animeism TURBO programming block on TBS and MBS will host the series’ October Japanese premiere. In October, the anime will be available to stream on Netflix globally and on Crunchyroll.
