In its first 22 days of release, the Detective Conan: Hyakuman Doru no Michishirube (Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram) movie brought in 10.5 billion yen, or around US$68.6 million, from ticket sales. This is the second movie in the series to gross 10 billion yen, albeit Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine took two days longer to accomplish so than Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram.
As of right now, Detective Conan is the only animated film franchise in Japan to have two straight films gross more than 10 billion yen there.
The movie debuted on April 12 and made 3,352,494,500 (about US$21.7 million) yen in its first three days of sales with 2,274,333 tickets sold. It was the highest three-day opening for the series since it surpassed the first weekend of Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine (Iron Submarine), the 26th movie that debuted in 2017. In Japan, the new movie outperformed HAIKYU to have the greatest opening weekend of any movie this year! The War of the Dumpster.
Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine made over 3.14 billion yen (roughly US$23.4 million) in its first three days of sales with 2.17 million tickets sold. With a total earnings of 13.88 billion yen, the movie is the first in the franchise to make more than 10 billion yen. The movie was the third highest-grossing movie in Japan in 2023 and the 18th highest-grossing movie in Japanese history.

Kid the Phantom Thief has sent word that he will pilfer a Japanese sword from the well-to-do Onoe Family in Hakodate, Hokkaido. Kid’s capture is the mission of Conan and Heiji Hattori, who just so happened to be in Hakodate. The collections of the Onoe Family are linked to the historical personage of Toshizo Hijikata, who passed away in Hakodate. Why is Kid pursuing a Japanese sword while he is an expert in jewels?
It so happens that Onoe’s family lawyer is discovered dead in the warehouse district, having presumably been slain with a Japanese sword. The suspect, an arms trader and investor, is allegedly hunting for the family’s secret wealth.
The patriarch of the Onoe family’s grandfather was heavily involved in the army industry throughout the war, and there were rumors that he had a potent weapon hidden somewhere in Hakodate that could “change the course of war.” Is Kid pursuing that firearm? Heiji is searching for the ideal spot to propose to Kazuha in the meantime.
